Product Description

Team with great ambitions led by Roger de Vlaeminck and Marcel van der Slagmolen.

With, among others, the Old Tour and Giro winner and also former World Champion Stephen Roche in their midst.

Stephen Roche became the laughing stock of the team on the 2nd day of the 1991 Tour de France.

In the afternoon a team time trial of 36.5 km was held near Lyon.

Stephen Roche was struck by diarrhea just before the start of the TONTON TAPIS team, so he arrived 7 minutes late at the start. In all the haste and hecticness, he ignored the waving of the jury who had to make him sign the attendance list.

He ultimately lost 14 minutes 25 seconds and ended up in 182nd place in the general classification, but he was later removed from the results because he had not signed the attendance list.

Roche appealed, but the jury was blameless because he had also exceeded the time limit in the team time trial.

To make matters worse, upon arrival, his teammates had already left for the hotel by bus, and they finished in last place in the team time trial.

Stephen Roche was therefore able to go home straight away, a sad end for a great champion.

In 1992 Roche rode with the CARRERA team and won another stage in the Tour, revenge on himself (????).
