On the Friday before the Dutch Cycling Championship, TVM found a new co-sponsor: POLIS DIRECT.
On Saturday evening the contracts were signed so that the Dutch Championship for professionals could already be ridden with the new sponsor. With some cutting and pasting there was a first shirt to ride with at the NK. If you look closely at the photo of the shirt you can see that the name TVM has been cut out and stitched on.
From the amateur team EUROPOLIS, 5 riders were transferred to the professional team. They rode the Dutch Amateur Championship on Saturday and the Dutch Professional Championship on Sunday.
These 5 riders (Raymond Thebes, Anthony Theus, Marcel Luppes, John den Braber and Pascal Appeldoorn) were given a professional contract until the end of the season. John den Braber handed in his contract after 1 week because according to him it was not a realistic contract, too short and no prospect of extension. In retrospect he was right about that, because only Raymond Thebes also rode for TVM in 1996.
As of November 1, TVM broke all ties with POLIS DIRECT due to financial and legal problems at that company.
