Product Description
This cycling shirt is from the Dutch cycling team Canada Dry – Gazelle. This professional cycling team was founded in 1973 with the soft drinks brand Canada Dry and the bicycle brand Gazelle as sponsors. The team was active in the professional peloton for 1 season and, under the leadership of sports director Ton Vissers, took part in major competitions, including the classics and the Tour de France. The team consisted of a mix of promising and experienced riders. Including the successful rider Rini Wagtmans (stage victories in the Tour de France) and Jan Krekels (stage victory Tour de France 1971).
In 1973 they took part in the Tour de France, they actually did not have enough (good) riders for the Tour. That is why 2 riders were contracted in Portugal for just the Tour de France, no one could speak them, they did not speak English and that was not a great success. After the Tour they disappeared back into Anonymity. They were: Herculano de Oliveira and Jose Martins.
Despite a nice mix of riders, the Canada Dry – Gazelle cycling team only achieved 6 victories.
