The combination sweater was the jersey worn by the leader of the combined classification in the Tour de France cycling race. It combination classification was introduced in 1968 in the Tour de France and was based on the ranking of all other classifications.
The combination classification is calculated by adding together the total time of a rider in the general classification, the points classification and the mountain classification. The rider with the lowest total time will receive the jersey of the combination classification. The combination classification jersey is considered one of the most prestigious jerseys in the Tour de France due to the versatility it takes to perform well in all three classifications.

The predecessor of the combination jersey was initially the white jersey, but from 1975 this became the jersey for the best young rider. From 1985 to 1989, the combination sweater awarded. It was a striking jersey that consisted of the different jerseys – a piece of the yellow jersey, a piece of the green jersey, a piece of the polka dot jersey and a piece of the – also gone – red jersey. The combination classification was based on the ranking of a rider in all other classifications: so the yellow jersey, green jersey, polka dot jersey (and the red jersey between 1983 and 1989). The most all-round rider received the combination jersey. Only the really big riders were able to win the overall standings.
