ZERO 1988
The Zero team was a remarkable project by Frans Alberts.
The team had no sponsors and only a large ZERO on the shirt.
The idea behind this was that riders could find their own sponsors in the space at the front of the ZERO.
It wasn't really a big success, only HISFA took the bait...
The team consisted mainly of relatively unknown riders, so it happened that during the opening race of the Belgian cycling season (DE OMLOOP HET VOLK), a ZERO rider broke away from the peloton and took the lead alone.
The Belgian TV commentator had no idea who this ZERO rider was, so the reporter on the motorcycle rode up to the ZERO rider to ask who he was. It was the Australian Neil Stephens. Later a well-known professional cyclist with, among others, the Spanish ONCE team.
